Packing Checklist for a winter trip

Hi there! My name is Mishana Sturdivant and I own Tad Bit Rad Travels. I’m a North Carolina-based travel blogger that enjoys sharing my personal experiences around the world as a black female solo traveler. I enjoy relaxing on a warm white sand beach with a chilled margarita in my hand. One weekend, I found a $600 roundtrip non-stop flight to Reykjavik, Iceland, and took a chance outside of my comfort zone. Since that solo Iceland trip, I’ve visited Oslo, Norway, Aspen, Colorado, and Switzerland. Here are a few of the items that I think any traveler will need for a winter getaway.

Items to Keep Warm

Grab any of these items from my Amazon Storefront here.

  1. For casual everyday wear, consider a waterproof coat, light jacket, knit hat/ear covering, knit gloves, scarf, and long socks (to cover your ankle from the cold wind).

  2. For outdoor activities, swap out the knit items for waterproof gloves, ear coverings, and waterproof hiking boots.

  3. For winter sports such as skiing, sledding, snowboarding, etc. consider a waterproof and insulated ski suit.

  4. Layering will be your saving grace because you can always take off layers if you get too warm. Consider clothing items such as thermals, leggings, sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts, thin long-sleeve tops, flannels, and hoodies.

I’m no expert in hiking glaciers, waterfalls, or winter sports, but I’m a fan of trying anything for the first time. This list should get any beginner prepared for their first winter trip.

Don’t forget the usual items!

Don’t forget these items for any type of trip!

  1. Portable charger: While you are out on the slopes or out shopping in Aspen, you will need a portable charger to power through the day.

  2. Camera: I like the Diji mini camera to capture my special moments. It also comes with a mobile app that I can immediately transfer over to my cell phone to edit and upload.

  3. Packing cubes will keep your luggage organized and allow you to optimize space.

  4. Door alarm/Door Lock for all of my solo travelers who want peace of mind when they’re sleeping in hotels, Airbnb, or shared accommodations.

  5. International adapter to stay connected no matter where you are in the world. I love the one pictured because it includes USB and USB-C plug-ins.

  6. Portable WiFi to guarantee connectivity the moment you step off the plane. Having your own personal hotspot comes in clutch when you don’t have to rely on others or pay for connectivity.

  7. Medicine and Toiletries (not pictured). I recommend keeping these items in your carry-on, labels in travel sized to optimize space.

  8. Chargers, don’t forget all of your cords and chargers for all of your electronics. I recommend an electronic travel pack or packing cube for the organization.
