Best Places To Brunch in Durham!

My name is Mishana Sturdivant and I run Tad Bit Rad Travels. The purpose of this blog is to share tips, tricks, and recommendations to empower my readers to travel efficiently and unapologetically. I am also a passionate foodie. Most of travels are driven by my love for food.

On my food blog, look forward to reading about my food experiences and opinions from around the world.

I did it. I purchased a home in Durham, North Carolina. I’m officially a Durham County resident. (Let’s hear it for the Bull City!) As a self-proclaimed foodie, it’s only right that I eat my way through the city. Here is a list of my favorite places to brunch and my honest reviews.

True Flavors Diner

Located off Highway 55, near the Research Triangle Park is the black-owned gem, True Flavors. Get there early, with a small party and you will be seated quickly. The menu takes the traditional southern brunch menu up a notch with fish and grits, salmon hash, and the many varieties of breakfast biscuits! My favorite is the spicy shrimp and grits. Please don’t sleep on Debbie Lou’s biscuits!

Dame’s Chicken & Waffles

Is this a list of Durham’s best brunch spots without Dame’s Chicken and Waffles? I went to LA to try the famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles and I was disappointed. There’s no comparison. Dame’s wins every. single. time. My favorite thing to order is The Buff Brahmas with the two chicken cutlets and apricot and peach shmear. I switch out the classic waffle for the sweet potato waffle and add a side of collard greens. Wow, I need this right now!

Lula & Sadies

Located in the Durham Food Hall, I love stopping by Lula & Sadies for brunch. It’s a southern restaurant that has a twist on all the southern favorites like the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, classic French toast, and chicken and waffles. It’s family operated and they cook your food fresh to order. The Durham Food Hall also has a nice full bar situated in the center of the Hall. It’s a lovely place to grab a mimosa and enjoy your Lula & Sadies Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles. My favorite dish is the southern Gumbo and rice.

Lula and Sadies website can be found here.

Vin Rouge

I love a good French bistro for brunch with girlfriends! Vin Rouge has beautiful patio seating that surrounds you with dimmed lighting and luscious greenery. Order a bottle of champagne with your significant other or friends and enjoy the steak and frites (or the mussels and frites!).

MUSHROOM AND GRUYERE CHEESE OMELETTE, Vin Rouge

Guglhupf Bakery, Cafe & Restaurant

I recently stumbled into Guglhupf while visiting SaltBox for some delicious seafood. Guglhupf is a German bakery, cafe, and beer garden. It caught my eye because of the long line to be seated. I had to try it. I ordered the Farmers omelet, a single pancake, and a nectarine honey lavender iced latte. The food was delicious but what stole the show was the fall pumpkin pastry that I ordered. I don’t typically order pumpkin-flavored anything but I took a chance! I’m glad that I did because then I understood the long line to the bakery.

Farmers Omelette, single Pancake, Guglhupf

These are just a few of my favorites. A few honorable mentions: Brigs Restaurants off of Highway 55. Brigs is very affordable and no one in the Bull City is beating their omelet menu!! Beyu Cafe is a black-owned coffee shop located just downtown Durham. They have delicious shrimp and grits and a specialty coffee menu.

Are you looking for a bottomless brunch? Chile, I don’t know what to tell you. Drinking laws are strict in North Carolina. It’s a Southern Thing that has a “bottomless” brunch. However, I don’t care much for their food. If you are looking for a boozy affordable brunch, I would recommend any of the restaurants that I mentioned previously and then follow up at Durham’s Boxcar (Bar + Arcade) for their Sunday special of $1 mimosas or $10 champagne by the bottle.
